As you know from my last post I got a littering ticket. I mailed it in with a letter of explanation pleading guilty. I’d hoped that the letter of explanation would’ve been sufficient but obviously not. So, because a cop had a bad day/didn’t get none the night before/someone pissed in his corn flakes, etc. I’m out $185. I guess that’s fair and just.. Nah you know me better then that I think it’s a bunch of horse chit but what do I know?
The fine itself was only $100, the statutory minimum plus $85 in court costs. The fact that I received the minimum fine even though the dbag cop recommended the maximum tells me that if I had plead not guilty and went to court it probably would have been dismissed. I have no one to blame but myself I really wasn’t looking forward to standing up in court and questioning this asshat with my stutter and all.
So, I made out a money order, as apparently my check wouldn’t be good enough and mailed it in today. Heck $185 is a train ticket to Florida so it’s not the money it’s the principle. The fact that a cop can be a gigantic prick for what ever reason and me as citizen is supposed to stand there and be sweet as pie. I don’t think so. I was respectful as can be until he showed himself to be an assclown. There is an inequity there. For that reason I respond to anyone, badge or not, with an equal amount of douchery.
The problem is there’s no recourse for a citizen against a cop in situations like this. If you talk to their commanding officer at best all they will get is a letter in the their file. Big whoop that’s not a punishment, I don’t even consider it a reprimand. At worst you will draw the ire of their brethren and get harassed every time you pull out of your driveway.
To the dbag cop all I have to say is next time think twice before antagonizing someone 3 times your size. There is no reason to be discourteous and downright disrespectful to any citizen until they’ve proven themselves to be disrespectful of you. Next time you might not get a guy like me, who will just run his mouth, but someone who doesn’t care and will dr0p you like the sack of chit you were acting like.
I feel for ya’ bro! I’ve been harassed a few times by the police. More often when I really need their help, I don’t get it. And more often when they should be spending their time roundin’ up the real bad guys, they waste their time with minor problems ….

Thanks Jim. I hear ya. I think 90% of cops are good and decent people trying to serve their community and help people. It’s the other 10% I cannot stand. I guess you have to take the good with the bad but it’s sad there is no recourse for an ordinary citizen.
There really isn’t much, if anything, that we can do to fight the system. Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and go with the flow ….

Wow, sorry to hear the price was so dear. The problem is you get a few rotten people who manage to qualify themselves for serving their communities as police officers. I suppose we’ve all met the Barney Fifes on our local police forces, but for every one of them, there are some damn fine people doing a job I would not want any part of doing.

Thanks Mike. Agreed, most cops are decent folks just trying to serve their community and earn a pay check. It’s the few jerks that give people a bad opinion of cops.
I would agree that most police officers are trying hard to do their job. The few bad apples make the good ones look bad too sometimes.
